Dieter Rams, born in 1932, is a renowned German industrial designer closely associated with Braun, Vitsœ, and the functionalist school of industrial design. His philosophy of "Less, but better" design, along with his unobtrusive approach, imbued his creations with a timeless quality, profoundly influencing product design worldwide. Rams embarked on his studies in architecture and interior decoration at the Wiesbaden Art Academy in 1947, later taking a hiatus in 1948 to gain practical experience and complete his carpentry apprenticeship. Returning to the academy, he graduated with honors in 1953 before commencing work with Frankfurt architect Otto Appel. In 1955, Rams joined Braun as an architect and interior designer, eventually assuming the role of design director in 1961, a position he held until 1995.
