Hans Brattrud (1933-2017) was a Norwegian designer best known for the Scandia chair series, particularly the Scandia chair, which he designed while studying at the Norwegian School of Crafts and Art Industry. The chair, featuring eight longitudinal laminated wood slats on a chrome-plated metal frame, gained international recognition and entered production in 1960 with Hove Møbler. Since 2002, Fjordfiesta has continued producing the Scandia series. Brattrud began his career as a carpenter before studying design. He went on to design for several manufacturers, including Kleppes Møbelfabrikk and Hellands Lenestolfabrikk. His furniture included the Comet armchair and the Windsor sofa.

Beyond furniture design, Brattrud co-founded an architectural firm in 1964 and later ran his own practice. He also served as director of Bra-bo Elementbygg (a prefabricated house manufacturer) and worked in property and planning for Nordre Land municipality from 1979 to 2003. Brattrud received multiple awards for his work, including a gold medal from the Bavarian State Government in 1967 for Scandia Junior and the King’s Medal of Merit in gold in 2008. His designs remain highly regarded in Norwegian design history.
