Florence Knoll (1917–2019) was an American architect, designer, and businesswoman. She studied at the Cranbrook Academy of Art, the Architectural Association in London, and the Illinois Institute of Technology under Mies van der Rohe. In 1946, she co-founded Knoll Associates with her husband, Hans Knoll, and led its design and planning department. She developed the “Knoll Planning Unit,” which shaped modern office interiors, and designed furniture such as the Florence Knoll Sofa and Credenza. She commissioned work from designers like Eero Saarinen and Harry Bertoia, making Knoll a leading force in modern design.
